Principal's Report

As we commence the final three weeks of Semester 1, I would like to acknowledge the commitment and hard work of our students and staff throughout a demanding assessment period. This has included VCE SACs and examinations for Years 9, 10 and 11.

Year 12 GAT

Students undertaking at least one Unit 3/4 subject will sit the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Tuesday 16th June. Year 12 VCE classes will not run on this day, and Year 11 students completing the GAT should prioritise this over their Year 11 classes.

I am pleased to report that our Year 9, 10 and 11 students approached the examination period with maturity and focus.

Year 10 Work Experience

Our Year 10 students will now commence their two-week Work Experience placements. We wish them every success and hope the experience provides valuable insights into future career pathways. Thank you to our students, families and Careers Team for their efforts in organising these placements.

Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)

Most students have had the opportunity to complete the Attitudes to School Survey. The feedback collected provides valuable information for our Wellbeing and Teaching and Learning teams, helping identify strengths and areas for improvement. This data will also inform future planning as we begin developing the school's next Strategic Plan.

Year 9 Morrisby Interviews

Year 9 students have recently participated in Morrisby feedback sessions, helping them better understand their strengths, interests and potential career pathways. This information will support discussions during the Subject Selection Conferences in August.

Debating Success

Congratulations to our Year 8 and Year 9 debating teams on a highly successful season. Students represented Rosehill with confidence and professionalism, demonstrating our values of Respect, Initiative and Learning. Their achievements included numerous team victories, close finals and several Best Speaker awards. Thank you to Ms Abuacan for her dedication, guidance and enthusiasm throughout the season.

Sporting Success

On the afternoon of Thursday 11th June, I was able to pop in for the final part of the Year 8 Boys AFL competition against local area schools. I arrived during the final, having already heard that our team had recorded impressive victories over Strathmore Secondary College and Essendon Keilor College in the earlier rounds.

The grand final was against Buckley Park College, who had progressed through the other side of the draw after wins against Maribyrnong College and Footscray City College.

Congratulations to our outstanding Year 8 team and their coaches on a dominant performance, winning the final 98–0. It was a terrific achievement and a testament to the skill, teamwork and preparation of the players and coaching staff. We wish the team all the best as they progress to the next stage of the competition.

Staffing Update

This week we welcomed Wen Pang to the Rosehill community. Wen joins our Administration team in Reception and brings extensive experience working in secondary schools. We are delighted to have her on board.

End of Term Reminder

The final day of Term 2 will be Friday 26th June, with an early dismissal at 2:25 pm. The day will operate on a Wednesday timetable.

Year 8 Debate Team

VICTORY AT THE PODIUM! Year 8 Debaters Claim the Final Round!

Unstoppable. Unshakeable. Utterly articulate!

There was absolute magic in the air at Melbourne Grammar School as our phenomenal Year 8 Debate Team stepped up for the ultimate showdown against Doveton College. In a masterclass of logic, quick wit, and rhetorical fireworks, our students argued their way straight to a spectacular grand final victory!

Please join us in giving a massive round of applause to our powerhouse team:

  • Matilda Simmonds (8A)
  • Ava Yassine (8E)
  • Monisha Ganguly (8E)
  • Lucy Kanaris (8E)

As if winning the grand final was not thrilling enough, the night featured a legendary individual milestone. Ava Yassine stepped up to the lectern to compete in her very first competitive debate. Not only did she handle the high-stakes pressure like an absolute pro, but she walked away with the coveted Best Speaker award! Talk about making an entrance!

While their arguments were razor-sharp, what truly shone through was their impeccable character. Matilda, Ava, Monisha, and Lucy represented Rosehill Secondary College with the highest level of integrity. They put in days of tireless preparation, gave it their absolute all, and were incredibly gracious in their well-deserved victory. They showed us all what true sportsmanship looks like.

If you thought these word-smiths were ready to rest on their laurels, think again! The team is so hyped from the win that they are already asking for more debates this year.

While they will have to wait until next year to officially step up to the podium again, the upcoming Year 9 Debates promise to bring even bigger motions, tougher competition, and more complex challenges. But judging by this performance? They are more than ready for it!

Well done, team! You have made the whole school community incredibly proud. Bring on next year!

Year 9 Debating News

Our Year 9 debate team recently stepped into the arena for an out-of-this-world showdown against Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School (Gottliebsen). Arguing the Affirmative side for the captivating topic, "That we should pursue life on Mars," our students truly gave it everything they had.

While the judges ultimately awarded the win to PEGS by a razor-thin margin of just 2 points, our debaters proved that they have the cosmic talent to compete with the absolute best!

A massive congratulations goes out to our incredible Year 9 trio who represented our school community with immense pride, sharp wit, and fantastic teamwork:

  • Alexia Radimisis (9A)
  • Jem Howe (9E)
  • Jordan Shah (9A)

They built a brilliant case for leaving Earth's orbit, delivering stellar arguments that kept the audience, and the adjudicator, on the edge of their seats.

While we did not walk away with the official "W" this time, this debate was the ultimate learning experience. The narrow margin showed just how close our team is to peak debating perfection.

The best news? We have plenty of time to fuel up the rocket! The final round of the season is locked in for Monday 27th July.

What to look forward to: Our final round opponent is currently sitting in the exact same ladder position as us. This means we are headed for a perfectly matched, highly competitive, and absolutely thrilling season finale.

With weeks of preparation time ahead, Alexia, Jem, and Jordan are already analysing the adjudicator’s feedback, sharpening their rebuttals, and getting ready to finish the season on a high note.

Go team! We are so proud of your efforts, your school spirit, and your brilliant minds. Bring on July 27th!
