Principal's Report

It has been an exciting start to Term 4 at Rosehill Secondary College.

Facilities

Most pleasing has been the access to all our new facilities. The refurbishment of A Wing looks terrific and combined with the external ground works over the school break the college looks terrific. We are very pleased we can offer the students and staff of our community such an improved environment. There are still several areas that we plan to upgrade in the coming months and years and look forward to focussing our attention to these works soon.

Planning - 2025

In addition to improving the physical environment of the school, this term is especially important in planning for the next year. We are well and truly into this phase and whilst we are keeping an eye on what the goals are for this year we are also very much working towards a sustainable medium and long-term school program.

We farewell our school Mental Health Practitioner, Caitlin Kennedy, who has decided to move into a different path and welcome Hannah Barker who has been appointed as her replacement. We thank Caitlin for all her work and support of students and promoting wellbeing and mental health over the past four years and wish her all the best in her new role.

Year 12

In the short term we wish our Year 12 students the very best of luck with the completion of VM and VCE, and encourage, support and expect a significant and sustained study and exam preparation effort from all Year 12 students who will be sitting exams in the coming weeks. A strong preparation, a commitment to doing and being the best you can and, a passion for your work will give you every chance to achieve your goals. Well done on completing 13 years of schooling and we look forward to watching you grow and become significant members of our global community.

Japan Tour

During the final week of Term 3 and the first week of the term break I was fortunate to attend the school camp to Japan. I wish to acknowledge our students who were exceptional ambassadors for Rosehill Secondary College. Despite the unseasonal hot weather, the trip was a tremendous success, and it was wonderful to visit our sister school Kogakkan High School. The bond and friendships formed through this cultural exchange program last a lifetime, and I encourage all families to consider hosting our guests in 2025 and then applying to attend the next trip to Japan in 2026.

Presentation Ball

Rosehill Secondary College was excited and ecstatic to re-introduce the Presentation Ball after five years. This successful event allowed many of our Year 11 students to collaborate, bond and have some fun. Whether it was one of the 28 participants or simply a guest, we all had a wonderful time.

The 28 excited participants trained tirelessly for nine weeks. Learning the dances, required skill dedication, and commitment. Not only was this about having fun but through the skill of learning the choreography, students demonstrated discipline to focus as well as devotion to work as a team. Everyone looked amazing and outstanding.

Monday night rehearsals proved to be a lot of hard work. It all came together when the final rehearsal took place at Luxor Reception Centre on Tuesday 10th September. By 3:00pm on Friday 13th September, all participants arrived at Luxor for their final dress rehearsal and professional photo shoot. Families and staff were proud of everyone’s dedication and achievements with this event.

It was also great to witness many other students from Year 11 to support the participants in this event. Our year level came together to share an evening of togetherness, collaboration, and fun.

We congratulate all the participants involved as well as their families who supported them to take part in the 2024 Presentation Ball. Such memorable moments have been created. Congratulations to:

ISP Moon Festival

On Tuesday, 17th September 2024, the Rosehill International Student Program hosted a joyful and heart-warming Moon Festival celebration, bringing together international students and their local student buddies for a special lunch at a local Vietnamese restaurant. This gathering was a wonderful opportunity to experience the rich cultural significance of the Moon Festival, a time-honoured tradition symbolizing reunion, prosperity, and unity.

The event was not only a celebration of culture but also a way to strengthen the bonds between our international and local students. It provided a platform for cultural exchange, promoting understanding and friendship across different backgrounds. For many of our international students, who are far from home, the festival's theme of family reunion held special meaning. Through this celebration, we aimed to create a sense of belonging and home within the Rosehill community.

Students enjoyed an array of authentic Vietnamese dishes and mooncakes, a traditional treat that adds sweetness to the festival. International Student Leader, Dac Thanh Dat LƯƠNG, gave an inspiring speech that encouraged unity and camaraderie, and he personally handed out mooncakes to each student, symbolizing shared joy and togetherness.

The presence of local student buddies added a special touch to the event, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone could share in the celebration. This gathering truly embodied the spirit of Rosehill Secondary College — an embracing, vibrant, and diverse community where cultural appreciation and connection thrive. It was a day filled with warmth, laughter, and meaningful connections, a beautiful reminder of the importance of unity in diversity.

VCE Italian Excursion

This year the VCE Italian class studied cultural topics such as Italian eating habits, coffee culture, travel and fashion. As part of their preparation for the Oral exam and Oral Presentations, Year 11 and 12 students visited Lygon Street, Carlton.

Year 12 students rehearsed their discussion at Brunetti Classico Café with ProfessorI Vossos e Bertoli. They also investigated other venues and services that supported Italian language learning, community involvement, cultural awareness and assistance for the Italian community such as Co.As.It. Year 11 students interviewed staff at famous venues such a Co.As.It., Caffè Corretto, Ti Amo and Papà Gino’s and of course we all got to taste the delicious Italian food and coffee. It was great to be out together.

Thank you to all the teachers and students involved and for their exemplary behaviour, work ethic and initiative demonstrated. Grazie a Joelle Blackmore and Giulia Maiolo (Year 12), Melissa Capogreco, Aidan Carne, Arianit Fazliou, Sofia Martinone and Cillian McKenna Burke (Year 11). Sofia was in Italy during this time, and she produced a film and commentary about her hometown. Melissa investigated fashion and she completed a presentation on Italian fashion in Italy and in Australia in her own time.

Bravissimi tutti!

New Seam Fossil Display

Our school’s latest addition is a stunning fossil display created through the collaborative efforts and ideas of two of Rosehill’s Year 9 students, Julian Fiumani and Ryan Vella.

The new exhibit features a genuine Spinosaurus tooth and an authentic trilobite fossil, thanks to the purchases by Rosehill Secondary College’s Science Department.

Julian and Ryan, guided by Mr Tetradis, then teamed up with the Technology, Engineering, and Art Departments to bring their vision of the fossil display to life.

The Technology and Engineering Departments enhanced the display using the college’s 3D printer to help bring the display to life.

Meanwhile, the Art Department contributed by allowing our passionate students to paint 3D-printed sculptures of a Spinosaurus and a Stegosaurus, adding a vibrant artistic touch to the exhibit.

The result is a captivating display in our science block that combines and shows off the cross-curricular opportunities brought about by a STEAM Educational Approach.

A big thank you to Mr De Cata, Mr Billet, Ms Anderson, Ms Davies, and many other teachers across the STEAM areas who helped support or contribute to this project!
