Principal's Report

The last few weeks of Term 3 have been extremely busy. This time of year, a great deal of planning is happening behind the scenes trying to prepare for the 2023 school year, whist also adjusting the current year’s program and plan. Despite all the happenings, it’s pleasing to see we have successfully navigated another term. The break will no doubt be well received by students and staff alike. It’s an opportunity to reflect and recharge for one final effort to see the year out.

Our thoughts are with our current Year 12 cohort who have a busy term break completing their trial exams. These are an important component in our Year 12 preparation and the feedback received from these exams can highlight key areas of focus in the lead up to their final exams. It is no secret that the students who perform best in VCE exams are the ones who have practiced exam questions the most. Just like any other activity the more you rehearse the greater the improvement.

I would like to acknowledge the wonderful effort of our performing arts department. The past two weeks have seen an incredible array of performances. Ranging from the music concert in Week 9, that entertained the audience with a mixture of music styles ranging from jazz, soul, blues, pop, rock and lovely piano and flute classical duet. Well done to Melissa Bonett, Shanea Barrett and the instrumental music team. This week we were able to see the incredible dance concert, once again the hard work and exquisite skills of our students, with the guidance of our teaching staff, was on display. Congratulations to Stephanie Wasif and the team for producing another high-quality performance. I look forward to hosting these events in our new auditorium and performing arts centre in the not-too-distant future.

Finally, I would like to wish all our families, staff and community a safe, happy and enjoyable term break. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to education and our College.

R U OK? Day

RU OK? Day - Pyjama Day

On Tuesday 6th September our Year 10 Student Leaders organised a casual clothes day to recognise RU OK? Day. Students were encouraged to wear their pyjamas or comfy clothes and donate a gold coin. To support the day, the Student Leaders organised an information sheet which was used by teachers to promote a discussion about the importance of sleep for maintaining good mental health.

The Student Leaders also facilitated a BBQ at lunchtime. The students sold midnight snacks, with cheese toasties and hot chocolates on the menu.

The event raised $1,265.65, with all the profits being donated to the RU OK? Day Foundation.

Volleyball

Thursday 1st September saw the long-awaited return of the Staff Vs Student games. These lunchtime games have always attracted a large crowd and the volleyball tournament was no exception.

After a tight first set going to the teachers, they continue to build momentum by taking an early lead in the second set. They were able to hold this lead for a two-set victory.

Volunteering in the Community

Year 12 VCAL Volunteering in the Community

Annually, the Year 12 VCAL students commit to a term of volunteering in our community. This year’s class has been at various organisations including: St Vincent de Paul, Helping Hands Mission, Red Cross, and Brotherhood of St Laurence.

VCAL Co-ordinator

Following is a reflection from Matt and George

Every Friday, we have been volunteering at the Red Cross in Moonee Ponds. It has been a positive experience for us. We have met really nice people, especially Rose who also volunteers every day. Rose said she looks forward to seeing us every week and that we are great kids! Our duties have included sorting clothing that is donated in the back room and steaming it for display. We have also learnt how to use the register and to help out at the front end when needed.
