It’s been a busy few weeks with many events and activities taking place at Rosehill. Year 11 students enjoyed wonderful weather for skiing and snowboarding during their camp on Mt Buller; Year 10 students attended the Melbourne Careers Expo as part of their preparation for 2023 course selection; Year 8 students enjoyed a visit from author George Ivanoff and also ran a very successful fund-raising ‘Jeans for Genes’ casual dress and barbecue day; Year 12 students and parents participated in Parent Teacher Interviews, and all students and staff enjoyed a wonderful day out for our annual Athletics carnival. We were also very pleased to welcome parents to two virtual events – the subject selection information sessions and the parent webinar on Consent and Sexting.
On Friday we farewelled Beth Cook as she follows her other passion – football! – and takes up an exciting opportunity outside the education sector. We wish Beth every success on her new path and thank her for the contribution she has made to our school as a member of the Visual Arts department and in her year level coordination roles over many years. Beth will be missed by students and colleagues. We welcome Beth’s replacement, Madeleine Scott, to the school.
This week students in Years 9, 10 and 11 will finalise their 2023 subject preferences during course counselling interviews. The interviews provide students and parents with the opportunity to discuss future pathways with our experienced teaching and careers staff and ensure the subject choices made are the right ones for each young person. Next year sees the introduction of the VCE Vocational Major, which replaces VCAL (the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning), so a good deal of new information has been disseminated to students to reflect this. Thank you to our careers team, Alfio Raiti and Nadia Vossos, our coordinators Beth Cook, Matt Hosking and Daniel Wallace, our ID teachers and Will Stubbings for their exemplary work in preparing students for these big decisions. Subject selection for our current Year 7 and 8 students will take place later this term.
Our much-anticipated school building programs, which have been delayed by supply, costing and logistics challenges, appear to be coming back on track this term. Work has recommenced on the external library reading space, funded through the inclusive school fund grant. Finalisation of the capital works project (C wing redevelopment) tender is also in train, and we are looking forward to this major project commencing soon. Updates will be provided in future newsletters.
Finally, Arthur Soumalias will return from leave next week and so I take this opportunity to thank the staff and school community for their support this term. I also thank Will Stubbings, who has stepped into the Acting Assistant Principal role during this time, for his wonderful contribution to the principal class team.
