Welcome to winter! The cold weather has certainly made itself felt and this was particularly the case for three staff members who took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge on Wednesday 4th June as part of the Fight MND fundraising day. Congratulations to our student leaders and Mr David Rose for their organisation of the day, and to Mr Ben Derks, Mr Daniel Wallace and Mr Jerome Love for being prepared to be doused in ice water for this important cause.
Pupil Free Day and GAT Day
As we head into the final three weeks of term, I take this opportunity to remind families that Tuesday 17th June will be a pupil free day for all students except those who are completing the GAT. The GAT is compulsory for all Year 12 students (VCE and VCE-VM) as well as students in earlier year levels who are completing a Year 12 (Unit 3/4) subject this year. Teachers will be marking assessments and preparing student reports on this day.
Exams
The exam program is almost complete and has run very well. Year 11 exams finish today while there are a few more to be completed next week for our Year 10 and 9 students. I thank our Senior and Middle School Leaders and Assessment and Reporting Assistant Principal, Ms Lena Hudson, for the smooth running of the exam program. Thanks also to classroom teachers and our Learning Area Leaders for their work in helping to prepare students for their exams.
Year 10 Work Experience
Once their exams are completed, our Year 10 students will be gearing up for a fortnight of Work Experience, which takes place in the final two weeks of this term. I thank our Careers Team for their extraordinary work in guiding and supporting students in organising their placements over the past months. We wish our students well. They will learn a lot about themselves and gain insights into future career possibilities. Teachers will be out and about visiting students at their places of work experience, and it is always terrific being able to witness our young people navigating new experiences beyond the school gates.
Year 9 Camp
Next week many our Year 9 students will be heading off to Trafalgar to participate in the Summit Adventure Camp. We wish the students and attending staff well and trust they will enjoy the opportunity to challenge themselves during their time away in this beautiful setting.
Cyber Safety – Susan McLean
Finally, I warmly invite parents and carers to come along to our cyber safety evening with acclaimed expert Susan McLean on Thursday 19th June at 6:00 pm. Please register via our website or contact the college administration. Students in Years 7 and 10 will also be working with Susan during the day, so this evening offers a great opportunity for parents and carers to tap into the topics their children will be discussing around safe online behaviours. The event will take place in the college auditorium.
