Principal's Report

INTERIM REPORTS/EXAMS

Interim reports are now available on COMPASS. This is the final opportunity for parents and students to review academic progress before the release of final semester reports and the upcoming exams for students in Years 9–11.

  • Year 11 exams commence on Thursday 13th November
  • Year 10 exams on Monday 24th November
  • Year 9 exams on Wednesday 26th November

I encourage parents to discuss these results with their children and focus on areas within their control—such as effort, homework, behaviour, and attendance. When these factors are strong, positive academic outcomes usually follow.

Our Year 12 students are now well into their written VCE exams. We wish them all the very best and encourage them to maintain their efforts through to the final exam. We look forward to celebrating the end of their schooling at the Year 12 Graduation event on Thursday 20th November.

YEAR 9 CITY EXPERIENCE

Last week, our Year 9 students participated in the City Experience program. Thank you to Mr Love for overseeing the organisation and planning of this wonderful learning opportunity, and to the ID teachers and accompanying staff for ensuring students had a safe and positive experience in the Melbourne CBD.

Year 7 Humanities

In Year 7 Humanities, students have been exploring the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt. They have studied a range of topics, including the social hierarchy, ancient Egyptian belief systems, mummification, and the life of King Tutankhamun.

As part of their studies, some students had the opportunity to experience the mummification process firsthand. This activity helped them understand the complexity and importance of the ritual. To complete the task, students created key items used in the process, such as canopic jars, a book of the dead, sacred amulets, and golden death masks.

Year 7 Mental Health Awareness Mini Marathon

At Rosehill we understand that mental health awareness in schools is crucial for student well-being, helping to improve academic performance by fostering concentration and emotional resilience.

We achieve this through integrated mental health education, creating supportive environments, and reducing stigma by normalizing conversations around mental health.

Our Rosehill strategies include awareness campaigns, providing online resources, involving parents, and offering direct support services like trained mental health practitioners.

October was Mental Health Awareness Month, and to raise awareness for mental health and wellbeing the Year 7 students were invited to take part in a collective mini marathon on the oval in Home Group.

Some students walked, some ran, and some ambled, however all students did at least one lap – with some students outdoing themselves, and running 12 laps in 15 minutes.

7A 165 LAPS = 66

7B 140 LAPS = 56

7C 98 LAPS = 39.2

7D161 LAPS = 64.5

7E131 LAPS = 52.4

7F110 LAPS = 44

7G 88 LAPS = 35.2 (5 students absent)

7H139 LAPS =55.6

OVERALL LAPS: 1032

OVERALL KS: 412.8

Soni Shay – 11 laps

Koa Babbington – 11 laps

Congratulations to 7A who completed the most laps on the day and were rewarded with Zooper Doopers.

A big shout out to Julius Muscara, Lucas Levi, Lyon Krygger, Joel Muratore for completing the most laps – 12 each – well done!!

Year 9 City Experience

From Tuesday 28th - Friday 31st of October, the Year 9 cohort embarked on City Experience. Throughout the week the students utilised public transport to explore the city and learn about the history and culture of Melbourne.

Highlights included workshops and tours at the Old Melbourne Gaol, Royal Botanical Garden, National Gallery of Victoria and learning about Youth Homelessness at Melbourne City Mission.

On the Friday, students engaged in the Amazing Race, using the knowledge of Melbourne's public transport system to move quickly between major landmarks to complete challenges and return to QV for the chance to win a prize.

Congratulations to Chris, Sam, Ella, Klarissa and Will from 9E for completing the race in the fastest time (1 hour and 5 min). A big thank you to all students and staff who participated and assisted! All the best to our Year 9s who will being doing Year 10 ID in 2026!

Jerome Love

YEAR 9 ID LEADER

Last week, as part of Year 9 ID we travelled into the city for four days for Rosehill's annual City Experience. We went on several excursions, including the Old Melbourne Gaol, the Botanic Gardens, the Melbourne Tour, Melbourne Mission, and the Ian Potter Museum. We saw some amazing art, especially in Hosier Lane with its world famous graffiti.

We were particularly moved by the "She Matters" mural, erected on International Women's Day which featured the faces and names of 116 women who had been killed between January 1st - March 8th in 2025.

One of our favourite parts of the City Experience was visiting the Old Melbourne Gaol. It was fascinating to explore the haunted cells and learn about famous prisoners such as Ned Kelly. The guides were amazing and we learnt about the brutal punishments inflicted on prisoners, and the inhumane conditions of the prison.

Another highlight was our landmark activity. Each student chose a landmark around the city and took photos with it. It was amazing to explore Melbourne and see so many famous places like Hosier Lane, Flinders Street Station, the State Library, and, of course, our favourite—Melbourne Central’s food court! There may have been some shopping involved, but it's all part of the experience ...

Overall, the City Experience was an incredible opportunity to discover more about Melbourne’s history, culture, and landmarks while spending time with friends, and a great way to learn how to navigate the city with curiosity and confidence.

No children were lost and no children were left behind.

Year 9 Business, Economics and Legal Studies – ‘Mock’ Election

Year 9 Business, Economics and Legal Studies – ‘Mock’ Election

As part of our study on democracy and elections in Australia, the Year 9 Business, Economics and Legal Studies class participated in a mock election to vote on their favourite chocolate bar. With the overarching learning goal, to examine the process of how the preferential system of voting works, what better way than to hold an election in class with official polling booths and a ballot box!

The ‘candidates’ for the most preferred chocolate bar were: Twirl, Kit Kat, Dairy Milk, Milky Way, and Boost.

Similar to a real election, students were asked three questions, ‘What is your name?’, ‘Where do you live?’, and ‘Have you voted before in this election today?’, before their name was marked off the electoral roll.

It was quite a surprise that the most preferred chocolate was Kit Kat achieving the required 50% + 1 votes to win, and no one casting an informal vote!

Many thanks to all the enthusiastic students that volunteered to be polling assistants and scrutiny assistants.

Year 10 Tasmania Camp

Our recent Year 10 Tasmanian camp was an unforgettable journey, kicking off with a flight to Hobart and scenic coach tours across the island.

A highlight was our ferry to Maria Island, where a few dolphin sightings set the scene for an exquisite day of hiking and close encounters with wombats!

We explored Tasmania's breathtaking landscapes, from the cascading beauty of Russell Falls and the unique Tessellated Pavements, to the panoramic views from Mount Wellington, and a visit to the historic site of Port Arthur.

A huge thank you to all the dedicated staff members who accompanied the students: Mr Vincent, Mr Connors, Ms Fennell, and Mrs Harbourd. We'd also like to extend our special appreciation to our wonderful Year 10 students, whose maturity and enthusiasm truly shone throughout the trip.

International Students Celebrate the Moon Festival

On Thursday, 9th October 2025, all international students came together to celebrate the Moon Festival with a special celebration lunch at a local Vietnamese restaurant.

The Moon Festival is one of Asia’s most cherished cultural traditions, symbolising reunion, gratitude, and togetherness. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for students from different backgrounds to connect, share stories, enjoy delicious food, and experience a sense of home and belonging within our school community.

This celebration not only honoured a beautiful cultural tradition but also promoted cultural exchange, friendship, and community spirit among our international students.

During the lunch, our International Student Leader, Dac Thanh Dat LUONG (Year 12), delivered a heartfelt speech. Dat shared the purpose of the Moon Festival celebration and expressed his gratitude to the teachers and the International Student Program (ISP) team for organising such a meaningful event for all international students. He also handed out mooncakes to each student, symbolising shared joy, good fortune, and togetherness.

The celebration also marked a special farewell to our Year 12 students, as we wished them all the best in their future endeavours. It was a memorable day filled with warmth, laughter, and appreciation — a perfect reflection of the unity and spirit of our international student community.

This gathering truly embodied the spirit of Rosehill Secondary College — an embracing, vibrant, and diverse community where cultural appreciation and connection thrive. It was a day filled with joy, meaningful connections, and a beautiful reminder of the importance of unity in diversity.
