Term 3
Welcome back. I trust that students and staff had some time to relax and reflect on their efforts for the year. I look forward to a similar consistent and hardworking effort for Semester 2. To students who performed well, keep up the great work and effort, to our students who may have been somewhat disappointed with their efforts and results, use this opportunity to make changes over the next two terms. I encourage students to avail themselves of our afterschool homework programs, if required.
Term 3 is a significant time for planning, and this is when we commence the process of looking toward 2024. Of most importance in the coming weeks is our subject selection process. Mr Connors, Ms Snow and the course selection team have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare. Please take the time to attend the virtual information sessions in the coming weeks. Important dates and times will be posted on compass.
VCE Parent-Student-Teacher Conference
The virtual parent-student-teacher conference for students in VCE is scheduled for Thursday, 27th July, 2:00pm - 4:00pm. A Compass post has been sent explaining when and how to book for these conferences.
This will impact the school program for this day. All lessons will run as follows -

Japanese Sister School Visit
We are excited to welcome our very special guests from our Japanese sister school, Kogakkan High on Wednesday 26th July. We have lots of great activities planned. Thank you to all the families who are hosting and supporting such a wonderful program - it would not be possible without the support of the school community.
Kogakkan High School is a Shinto School and part of the Shinto University in Ise, Japan. Shinto is a very traditional religion in Japan and is seen as a very prestigious and important part of Japanese culture. It is a great opportunity for our students to be exposed to a different culture and experience new and different ways of thinking and working.
Work Experience
Year 10 students are back after a month away from school due to the term break and two weeks of work experience. Ms Vossos and Ms Susnjara did a terrific job in completing paperwork, helping source placements, and coordinating the program for almost 200 students. Many schools have reduced work experience in recent times but we at Rosehill believe the experience is invaluable and provides a taste of the workforce and possibilities for future pathways. We believe this is terrific preparation for such discussions, especially in the lead up to course counselling and subject selection sessions for VCE over the next few weeks.
School Musical
Our musical performance Elvis Reimagined is almost upon us. This runs over two nights on Tuesday 1st August and Wednesday 2nd August at the East Keilor RSL. Tickets are available from Try Booking.
NAPLAN
Individual results will be mailed home in the coming days. Please take the time to read the documentation provided, with the results, as there is a new way of measuring student performance. The six numerical bands have been reduced to four new proficiency standards.
The NAPLAN proficiency standards include four proficiency levels for each assessment area at each year level:
- Exceeding: the student's result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: the student's result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: the student's result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: the student's result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
Staffing
Finally, I would like to welcome several new staff who have commenced this term. Despite the significant teacher and staff shortage across the system, we have been very fortunate to be able to attract a broad range of staff with various degrees of experience and highly sought-after qualifications.

Katelyn McInerney - Health and Physical Education with significant VCE and VET experience.
Ator Gorgis – English and Humanities Faculties.
Rachel Cerchiara – Mathematics and Science faculties.
Holly Beasley – is an experienced educator and will be leading our Disability and Inclusion work.
Lou Huynh – Specialist Technician - part of the Technical Support to Schools Program.
