Principal's Report

A warm welcome to all our families, students, staff, and parents, both new and returning for the 2024 school year.

It is a great privilege and honour to be the Principal of this College, and I look forward to working with our school community to continue to build on the strong reputation that Rosehill Secondary College has established over many years. Our pursuit of continuous improvement whilst providing an outstanding education for all our students is paramount to our purpose.

The school year has commenced exceptionally well, and it has been pleasing to see the calm and orderly manner with which our students’ have embraced the expectation of the school year.

Our School Vision

At Rosehill Secondary College the learner and learning outcomes are central.

Our students are inspired to achieve success through stimulating and positive learning environments, and innovative and diverse teaching strategies.

This is complemented by respect, co-operation, and commitment from all members of the college community.

New skills, new knowledge and new understandings will give our learners the confidence to face the future.

Our Vision is underpinned by the college values. They are - Respect, Initiative and Learning (RIL)

The two (2) key goals for the year are:

  • Goal 1 To maximise the learning growth of every student.
  • Goal 2 Empower students to actively take responsibility and ownership of their learning and wellbeing.

The initial focus for Term 1 has been on using some of the learnings from the Day 1 Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) training, to establish whole school Consistent Predictable Routines (CPR) in every class, every day. This involves simple tasks such as lining up outside each classroom in an orderly manner, consistently engaging with our pedagogical model GANAG, providing a brain break during each lesson and ensuring the lesson goal is re-visited at the end of each lesson.

We continue to provide outstanding opportunities for all students. We have funded and provided enrichment programs for our students. Our mathematics team will again offer RAMP to highly capable mathematics students. Our English enhancement program REAP will target students demonstrating high aptitude in Literacy. Both programs complement our long-standing accelerated STEP program at Years 7-9. Please contact Ms Wasif for further information regarding any of our enrichment programs.

In addition, the college has been able to staff and plan for significant tutoring support across the year. Literacy and Numeracy tutors will work with students and classes identified as needing some additional assistance to succeed. Ms Bevinetto is responsible for overseeing this program and uses data from NAPLAN, PAT testing, and teacher judgments to make decisions on target groups and cohorts.

College Diary/Planner

All students in the college are encouraged to have a school diary/planner. These are available from Reception for $15 and are an important item for all. A critical element of success at school, and in life, is the ability to be well organised. The school planner is a vital tool for helping children plan and organise their day, week, and term. The Rosehill diary is specifically designed and planned for our school and provides valuable information such as our school rules/policies, expectations, classroom exit logs and great study tips. The front cover of our diary was designed by the winner of our competition last year, Hugo Bliss.

Year 12 Camp

Last week I was fortunate to attend the Year 12 camp for one night. It was terrific to see the staff and students building a strong rapport and I can report that our students received numerous compliments from all and sundry on their attitude, behaviour, and conduct. The staff at the surf club were impressed; the staff at the Penguin Parade provided positive comments to our teachers as did the staff at A Maze ‘n’ Things and the Chocolate Factory. The school value of Respect was evident during camp. Well done Year 12 class of 2024 - keep up the great start.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,


If you have a current Health Care Card or Pension Card, you may be eligible for the Camps/Sport/Excursions Fund (CSEF) payment. This funding can be used towards excursions, camps and sporting activities that run throughout the year at Rosehill.

If you applied for CSEF in 2023, and are a current student, you do not need to complete an application form unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.

You will only need to submit a new application form in 2024 if any of the following changes occurred:

  • New student enrolments
  • Change in family circumstances.

Schools can accept and process applications up until the end of term two each year. CSEF payments are made to schools from March onwards.

Application forms are available via the department’s website, at the College Reception, or click on tab to access. Please complete and return this form to us along with a copy of your valid concession card.

Applications for 2024 will close in June 2024.

Victorian High-Ability Program – Enrichment

In Term 4 of 2023, Chantelle Caligiuri was selected to participate in the Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP) for English. This enrichment program aims to extend high-achieving students in English or Mathematics and students from Rosehill Secondary College are often selected by the Department of Education to participate every term. Chantelle studied the novel ‘Hive’ by A.J. Betts and wrote an exceptional piece of work that is now being published by VHAP.

Debating

A meeting will be held in P8 at lunchtime on Friday 9th February for students in Years 9 to 12 wanting to be part of the debating team this year.

This is a great opportunity to assist students with their confidence, enhance oral presentation skills, as well as research and analytical skills.

Students must attend the meeting in order for teams to be registered, so please be on time.

Please email Christina.Georgiades@education.vic.gov.au if you are Interested in joining the team but cannot attend the meeting. Alternatively, you can see me in my office in the Year 11 Centre.

Years 7 and 8 have this opportunity in Semester 2. You can register your interest for debating with me anytime from now, for next semester.

After-School Tuition Program

Rosehill's After-School Tuition Program is ready to kick off for another year!

This year, the program will be running on Monday afternoons from 3.30pm to 4.30pm in the Rosehill Library. Come along on your own or with a study group to receive help from teachers and senior students, or simply to find a quiet place to complete your homework.

Rosehill's Maths - Science study session is back this year!

This year, the program will be running on Wednesday afternoons from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm in the welcoming space of our School Library.

Year 11 Induction Day 2024

The Year 11 cohort commenced the academic year on a very productive and positive note. On Wednesday 31st January, our Year 11 students entered the school gates smiling and eager to commence their VCE journey. The day started with a year level assembly where many school protocols and procedures were discussed including the structure of the VCE. Many questions were asked, and it was great to witness the enthusiasm and excitement amongst the cohort.

Students also attended a study skills session by Elevate Education. This session clearly provided the students with many skills, techniques and tactics to manage their studies in order to create a balanced lifestyle of study and personal free time.

We would also like to thank Mr Cooper Chapman from The Good Human Factory who presented a Wellbeing session. Our Year 11s were very engaged during this session and Copper provided many strategies and ideas on how young people can look after their own mental health.

A huge congratulations to the Year 11 Leadership Team for 2024. These students were presented with their leadership badges. The following students have been elected as our Year 11 leaders:
