Travencore iLead Program

The iLead program is run during Term 3 each year by the Travancore School.

iLead is a leadership program for Year 9 students who have been nominated by their school as potential leaders. iLead focuses on enhancing the student’s leadership skills through a range of outdoor and community activities. Students will work together to further develop their leadership skills through a range of outdoor activities, practical skills and community involvement.

Abdiriman Abdi, a current Year 9 student took part in the program throughout Term 3.

Abdi, along with seven other students from throughout the area, have been working on a Community Focus project as a digital project due to lockdown. The project focused on the impact of lockdown/remote learning on youth mental health.

Abdi and the other iLead students presented their work in a live virtual presentation that Mr Hosking, Ms McKay and Ms Cook attended on Thursday 16th September.

They detailed their findings from their research and presented some strategies and suggestions for supporting students and teachers. It was an extremely well put-together presentation by the group.

Abdi did an amazing job and spoke beautifully about the difficulties he has faced over the past 12 months, how he has looked after his wellbeing, and the importance of reaching out and seeking support. His words clearly touched those in attendance, as he got a huge shout out at the end of the presentation from a teacher of one of the other participating schools.

Well done Abdi, we are very proud of you.
