Who Qualifies for EAL?
Students are defined as being EAL students if they come from a language background other than English, and require additional support in learning English as a second or additional language.
Funding is allocated to schools to provide EAL programs for students based on the number of students who:
• Come from a language background other than English
• Speak a language other than English at home as their main language
• Have been enrolled in an Australian school for less than five years
• Attract Student Resource Package (SRP) funding.

Classes
After enrolment, students are grouped according to their level of English, age and prior schooling. Classes are kept small to ensure that students can receive the optimum amount of assistance from the teacher.
Program
The teaching program is carried out in English by experienced EAL teachers with knowledge in teaching classes with mixed ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
Students receive intensive instruction and are exposed to a curriculum designed in preparing them for mainstream schooling and life in Australian society.
